Sometimes the idea of the artist needs a technological aid to take real shape. As Canova carved the plaster and then had to bring his wonders on the marble, in the same way an artist can give shape to his/her model on a scale and a material easier to handle, and then bring it back on the scale and material of his/her original idea.
In this case the artist Gianpietro Carlesso gave shape to a dynamic expression of the urbanism of the city of Milan through a polystyrene model of about 70 cm; MarMax has scannerized the model and has shaped the map of Milan on it by extrusions and cuts, following the directions of the artist.
The 3D model obtained was used to create the real scale model, of about 7 m, exhibited at the Biennale di Venezia 2008.
