Goldsmith art

The goldsmith art often plays with the reproduction of natural objects such as flowers, plants, animals in precious materials like gold, silver, gems, etc.. Sometimes the work of reproduction is very complicated, requiring many skills and is extremely demanding in terms of time required.

One solution may be the use of an optical scanner for scanning the real object and its re-production by stereolithography. Starting from this model, the goldsmith refines it and makes it more real in terms of details and colours and then uses it for the lost wax process.

In this work, we started from a dried desert fly, which was scanned and reproduced in stereolithography. The goldsmith has used this model to create the reproductions in wax which were then further processed, polished and painted to reach the final effect.
