Stereolithography (SLA)

 

Stereolithography (SLA) is a resin 3D printing or additive manufacturing process which uses a vat of photopolymer resin that is cured when struck by a certain wavelength of light. The build platform moves down in small increments and the surface layer of the liquid polymer is exposed to the light where the UV laser designs a cross-section layer by layer. SLA is commonly used to generate highly detailed artwork and can be used to make patterns for investment casting applications or for silicone molds.

The stereolithography uses materials such as resin and wax.

 

Advantages:

  • It allows to create complex geometries and detailed parts

  • Smooth finish

Disadvantages:

  • Requires support structures

  • Requires post-finishing
